Artist Biography:

Children are always asked “What do you want to be when you grow up?” My answer was “An ARTIST!” So the journey began with many sketchbooks, art supplies, art classes, and hours of painting and drawing. After high school I went to Frostburg State College, and earned a B.S. degree in Fine Arts. My senior show in 1979 was a fun series of large works featuring clothing, fabrics and paint. Then out into the world with an art degree and various jobs in the art field such as portrait artist on the boardwalk in OC, silk screen t-shirt designer, sign painter, and newspaper layout artist. I realized that I might end up being a “starving artist!” So back to college I went and to get a K-12 art teaching certificate. After teaching mainly middle school art for over 28 years my childhood dream of becoming “an ARTIST” is here! Now I work in my home studio, paint en plein air events, take workshops, exhibit my work, meet lots of other artists and even sell my work so I don’t become “a starving artist.” My art journey will continue as long as I can hold a pencil or brush !!

Artist Statement:

I am always observing my surroundings, a scene will appeal to me and I will want to get my paint and brushes out and try to capture it. I work with water based oils, acrylics and mixed media. My artwork revolves around themes from various times in my life. I am drawn to color, pattern and texture, and lately en plein air painting. I find great satisfaction in being outside with nature and my easel.
