November 2024 Exhibits
November 1 @ 9:00 am - November 30 @ 4:00 pm
Featured in the Thaler Gallery:
"Modern Allegories" featuring three artists exploring symbolism in art.
Susanna Eisenman, Felisa Federman, David Hollander
- Eisenman's work explores art as storytelling, bringing attention to untold stories as a way of starting a dialogue, appreciation for others' experiences, and ensuring the Asian American experience in America is told. She is interested in the intersection between groups, the current erosion of individual rights such as bodily autonomy, and the evolution (or sometimes co-opting) of symbols and language to suit a social or political agenda.
- Federman's series provides an open-end view of contemporary and global social-economical and cultural issues. It will encourage conversations to an intergenerational community at large about the techniques she used and of the meaning of each artwork. Her fiber mixed media depicts movement of communities through nature. The image of a woman's head is just a symbol of humanity and a clue for a composition that looks almost abstract.
- Hollander's work revolves around universal Humanist themes, as opposed to specific cultural or political topics. Some paintings are meant to inspire, others to disrupt. The Weather Report Suite is a collection of allegorical paintings that explore the relationship of weather patterns to psychic states. Another series is a subjective meditation on the Tarot deck. Some "cards" are interpretations of the existing deck, others are Jungean archetypes of his own design.
