Regardless of your amount of experience, desired painting style, or subject preference, this class will assist in your growth as an oil painter and artist.
Against common belief, oil paint is the perfect medium for painting enthusiasts, because it is more forgiving than other mediums. This allows artists to make substantial improvements throughout the painting process without having to start all over.
Ultimately, this class will guide you step by step, starting with the best materials for oil painting. Next, in each lesson to connect class content knowledge to student painting application, historical and contemporary masters will be featured. Along with color mixing, the primary goal of instruction will address the importance of creating a sketch and dynamic compositions in paint. Finally, instruction will cover the various layers of “building up” an oil painting to the end goal.

If you did, which media are best to mix? We will find out in an unusual workshop. We will sample and experiment with several techniques to discover which work, and which don’t. We’ll also find out which we like and which we don’t. Bring a previous work in any medium, that you feel could use “help”, or plan to begin something new. Also bring your own supplies for your new endeavor.
I thought that some might be interested in actually trying a collage, rather than just hearing about them. Therefore, I will supply some simple materials for collage.

The students who would like to try collage in addition to mixing media, should bring 1-2 pieces of sturdy paper ( Bristol, cardboard ) , glue stick, and/ or Elmer’s glue, and paper scissors.
