Artist Biography:
Always drawn to the arts, I studied photography in college, but it wasn’t until 2020 that I rekindled my creative spirit. After becoming both a teacher and a mom, I found little time for my own artistic expression. However, the deep yearning to create never left, and I finally listened to it. I rediscovered my joy for art while designing projects for my young child, and through that process, I began to explore various styles and techniques. Making art is a way for me to practice how to build the capacity to take risks, appreciate imperfection, and find beauty in the world around us.
Artist Statement:
My art is all about capturing the natural world around me. I’m drawn to painting soft pink skies using blended acrylics or loose watercolors. I love working with both mediums because they each bring something different to my seasonal sketches and botanical studies—watercolor gives me that dreamy, atmospheric quality perfect for misty mornings and ocean scenes, while acrylics let me really dig into the rich colors and textures of nature throughout the year. I’m constantly sketching and painting what I see, creating this ongoing visual diary of the seasons and the small wonders that most people rush past. My work is really just an invitation to slow down and notice the incredible beauty that’s everywhere if you take the time to look – whether it’s the way light hits the water or how a simple branch changes from month to month. My artistic practice gives me the confidence to try a variety of mediums and I find joy in trusting the process, leaning into the “messy middle” of a painting and sharing my work as it is completed. I find this particularly true when working with gel and ink printing plates.
