"Child's Play" by Muthulakshmi Anu Narasimhan. As an artist and as a mother I am endlessly fascinated by the creativity and imagination behind children's play. The UN has designated play as a fundamental right of children and it is easy to see why. I was born in India, raised in the Netherlands, and now live in America. When I visit India, I am always astounded by the way children are able to make do with sometimes no toys at all and create their own out of spare tires, stone, etc. However, I see this mirrored in a way with my own children when they are bored with their many toys and electronics that they play best with toys they make from old boxes and cardboard. Children's play is fundamentally so creative and endless in its permutations. I hope to explore on canvas the ways in which children play, their ability to adapt their play to different environments and available resources. I want to explore how different socio economic strata changes play and what elements stay the same throughout. I plan to use pastel as my main medium but I will let the subject dictate my medium if needed.

In Studio E:

Elle Bargar: I was born in Annapolis Maryland, however, my family and I moved to the Eastern Shore in 2006. I spent most of my life living in Berlin and partaking in many Eastern Shore activities such as surfing, fishing, hunting, and playing lacrosse. I attended Stephen Decatur High School where I played volleyball, basketball, and lacrosse. In 2015, my lacrosse team competed in the Maryland State Championship. Upon graduation, I furthered my education and lacrosse career at Messiah College in Mechanicsburg, PA.  After a devastating lacrosse injury, my career came to an abrupt end. Due to this, I moved back to the hometown that I love and focused all my time on my schooling. I attended and graduated from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore with a Bachelor’s in Art Education in 2020. Currently, I am teaching elementary art at both Glen Avenue and Pemberton Elementary school located in Wicomico County Maryland. When creating art, I am inspired by my upbringing, town, and natural environment. Growing up, my parents instilled the values of hard work, dedication, and commitment in myself and my four older brothers. These morals have greatly impacted my artistic journey as I strive to perfect each artwork. My favorite medium to work with is fine point pen. I love to draw and enjoy using the stippling technique to create value. Living on the eastern shore has greatly impacted the subject matter of my artwork. I love drawing or painting farm animals, marine life, or wildlife. In the future, my fiancé and I have plans to get married in May. I also intend to further my education after my first year of teaching to work towards earning my Master’s degree in education. Rachel Eure: Born and Raised in Worcester County, Maryland, Rachel Eure has lived on the Eastern Shore her whole life. With the support of her parents and teachers, Rachel fell in love with art early on. Once she got to high school, she started to take art even more seriously. With this heightened interest in fine arts, Rachel decided to go to school to study art. She graduated from Salisbury University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a concentration in painting. Currently, she is studying Art Teacher Education at UMES in order to get her Master’s degree in education. Her goal is to one day teach art, and to hopefully help instill a passion for art in her students, just like her teachers did for her. Her preferred medium is typically oil paint, but she has also recently begun to love ceramics. Her main inspiration is the eastern shore, but she also draws inspiration from her personal experiences.

Erica DeHart - After studying graphic design (1989~1994) at Tyler School of Art with portfolio in Illustration, I began a career as a freelance illustrator for several years, building a portfolio full of various national publications. I broke away from the commercial arts over two decades ago to begin creating unique murals for local homes, businesses and universities up and down the east coast. Around the same time, also began an interest that has grown into a love with plein air in oils, traveling often to compete in plein air events. I have recently began experimenting with blending oils and acrylics to create a unique mixed media effect with layers of paint. It successfully marries abstract and realism together in a new, creative way. I am ever learning, experimenting, creating and always excited to see the next canvas on my easel ready for paint.
